EURACTIV is the leading EU policy media present in 13 European countries. It publishes EU news free of charge and facilitates debates for EU policy professionals in 13 languages. With 2.3 million page views and 783.986 unique visitors per month, EURACTIV is a leading online media on EU affairs. The group gathers approximately 100 people around Brussels and its network of national affiliates. It has four main sources of income: sponsorship, communication package memberships, advertising and public contracts.
EURACTIV is looking for an experienced French-speaking and writing reporter, who will be based in Paris, with a keen interest in all developments related to agriculture and food policy in France and the EU in general.
The ideal candidate should have at least one to two years of journalistic experience, preferably dealing with EU policy or agriculture/food policy, have a good understanding of EURACTIV’s core readership, and have a well-cultivated news sense. S/he will be expected to deliver breaking news stories and in-depth feature articles focusing on policy developments in agriculture, food safety, food policy, but also help with covering political news from France.
The journalist should be confident in linking with top level politicians, business leaders and influencers, and willing to moderate high-level conferences. As a good team player, he/she must also be willing to jump on news trends as the need arises, for example during EU summit meetings, as well as to develop some multi-media expertise (podcasts, vlogs etc).
Main responsibilities:
- Write breaking news stories, interviews, as well as in-depth and background articles for a specialised audience
- Write in-depth policy briefings and special reports to deadline
- Conduct interviews with high-level officials, including EU Commissioners, MEPs, business leaders and policy experts
- Moderate events, both face-to-face and online
- Identify topics for interactive debates
- Contribute to meeting EURACTIV’s editorial mission and commitment to balanced reporting
Profile:
- at least one to two years of journalistic experience, with focus on EU policy or agriculture/food policy
- University degree in journalism and/or political science
- French as the native language; strong English-language writing skills are a plus
- Deep knowledge of EU policies
- Ability to deliver accurate stories in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to think quickly and provide insights and perspective on reports coming from a wide variety of sources, including EU institutions, business associations and civil society;
- Hard-working, able to respect tight deadlines, entrepreneurial, team-player
- Online publishing, mobile publishing, social media, and information management experience.
- Other European languages, as well as interest in producing multi-media content, are an asset
- Interested in working as an independent contractor
