  • The Multinational Development Policy Dialogue (MDPD) in Brussels serves KAS as a European hub for dialogues on democracy, sustainable development, climate and energy, comprehensive security and multilateralism.
  • Through our activities we bring together our global partner networks from civil society organisations, governments, media and think tanks from more than 100 countries with the Brussels community.
  • These dialogues lead to a better joint understanding of local conditions in partner countries and provide decision makers in Europe with concrete policy recommendations for existing challenges across the world.
  • The MDPD team also actively supports our offices globally in applying for and implementing EU funded projects. As an active member of the European Network of Political Foundations (ENoP) our programme closely cooperates with other political foundations in order to provide input in EU-consultations in the field of democracy support.  

To expand and strengthen our external communication, we are hiring a Communications Officer for the starting date:  04.05.2020.  

Job Profile: 

Full-time position Communications Officer  The successful candidate will be in charge of developing and implementing a comprehensive social media strategy to communicate our activities to the Brussels community and our global networks. 

Reports to:  MDPD Programme Director  

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Managing MDPD’s external communications in close cooperation with the team

  • Developing and implementing a communication plan for the programme

  • Coordinating and revising MDPD’s online presence

  • Extending online engagement on relevant online and social media platforms

  • Administering all social media accounts

  • Engaging with external partners to promote attention for new projects and publications

  • Ensuring the compliance of all activities with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

  • Preparing weekly and monthly reports on web traffic and analytics

  • Create and manage an effective project management system to ensure that key events, activities and deliverables for priority projects are tracked and coordinated properly 

Successful candidate should fulfil the following profile:  

  • Proven experience (min. 3 years) of professional experience in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or related fields 

  • Relevant degree in communication, marketing, journalism, and/or public relations

  • Excellent written and oral language skills in German and English, French is an advantage

  • Sound knowledge of the GDPR

  • A high level of creativity and motivation 

  • Critical thinking with a strategic approach and strong attention to detail, Integrity, confidentiality and full discretion

  • Comprehensive understanding of social media strategies, including the ability to launch new online presence 

  • Understanding of web traffic metrics

  • Familiarity with web design and publishing

  • Video filming and editing skills preferred

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritise and multitask

  • Works well under pressure and a team-player

  • Reliability, accuracy and flexibility in carrying out the given tasks 

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop, Premiere), or equivalent, is an advantage
